The PPGICS has a single area of concentration, called "Configurations and Dynamics of Information and Communication in Health", which prioritizes understanding the contexts and specific processes of production, mediation, circulation, appropriation of information, and communication devices, as well as actors, networks, and public policies in the health field.

This concentration reflects the initial and historical vocation of our Program, focused on the investigation and critical analysis of the social circuit of knowledge. It enables the training of qualified personnel to find innovative solutions, ethically and socially committed to addressing issues and problems in the health field.   This common goal allows for the training of professionals who can work both in the academic career at universities and research centers, as well as in the coordination, management, and execution of communication and information policies in health, science, and technology institutions, particularly those linked to the three levels of government and non-profit public organizations.

The concentration area "Configurations and Dynamics of Information and Communication in Health" is linked to three Research Lines, which share the characteristic of diverse epistemological and theoretical-methodological perspectives. These perspectives also involve the development of conceptual foundations and investigative procedures that underpin interdisciplinary approaches.

These foundations and perspectives imply a productive dialogue with social sciences, whether applied or not, history, philosophy, cultural studies, epidemiology, geography, data science, social studies of science, while maintaining the central research focus: the communication and information processes related to the social circuit of knowledge in health and the analysis of health situations and social health inequalities.
