Inesita Soares de Araujo

MA and PhD, Communication and Culture, UFRJ (1995 and 2002); Bachelor’s in Social Communication, UFPE (1975). She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Center of Social Studies, Coimbra University. Researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and the Laboratory of Research on Communication and Health (LACES), Institute of Scientific and Technological Communication and Information in Health (ICICT). She chaired the Graduate Program in Health Information Communication from 2009 to December 2012, where she also supervised MA and PhD candidates. Professor, International PhD Program in Global Health, Human Rights, and Life Policies (CES/Coimbra University and Fiocruz). She was chair of the Specialization Program in Communication and Health, 2002-2008. She chairs the Communication and Health (CNPq) and Games and Health (CNPq) research groups; chair of the Communication and Health Working Group, Latin American Association of Communication Researchers (Associação Latinoamericana de Investigadores da Comunicação - ALAIC); member of the Communication and Health Working Group, Brazilian Association of Collective Health (Associação Brasileira de Saúde Coletiva - ABRASCO); and former chair of the Communication Policies and Communication Working Group, Association of Graduate Programs in Communication (Associação dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação - COMPÓS). She has authored two books, "A Reconversão do Olhar - prática discursiva e produção dos sentidos" (Editora Unisinos) [Reconversion of Looking: Discursive Practice and Sense Production, Unisinos Publishers] and "Comunicação e Saúde" (Editora Fiocruz) [Communication and Health, Fiocruz Publishers], the latter as coauthor, in addition to several articles and book chapters. She is a member of the editorial and scientific board as well as referee for several journals in her field. She has experience in Communication and Public Policies, with current emphasis on collective health. Her main subjects of interest are: communication and health in their political, epistemological, theoretical-methodological, and institutional dimensions as well as their agents and practices; the relationships among health communication, inequality, iniquity, and inequity; the spaces and processes of mediation and meaning production for health; and research methodology, planning, and communication assessment.
